Crazy about dinosaurs
Those who know our kids a little bit, know that they are crazy about dinosaurs. And that even is an understatement. I don’t know how many dinosaurs we have at home, but if it’s up to the boys, more will join the crowd. While our youngest loves to play with dinosaurs and loves to watch movies and documentaries, our oldest has really started to take interest in the history of dino’s, how they came to exist, how they lived, how they developed and how they became extinct.
Then a park about/with dinosaurs is all that you need. Near Trier, in the southern part of the Eifel, close to the border with Luxembourg, you will find Dinosaurierpark Teufelsschlucht. Two years ago, during our holiday in the Eifel, we visited the park for the very first time. Since then, it has almost become a regular item during our holidays. It’s a good one hour drive from our holiday home, but it’s definitely worth it. If just to see those happy faces :).
Fourth visit
Doesn’t it get boring to visit the same park? Not if you ask the boys. And I have to admit that the park does a lot to keep it interesting for returning visitors. This has been the fourth time we’ve visited the park and each time, there were new things to discover. They often add new dinosaurs and they opened a new part last year about what science thinks about kind of animals will roam the earth in 5, 10 and 100 million years. This year, they’ve opened yet another part in the park: the giants of the seas. The boys were ecstatic.
Also fun to do for kids (but which we skipped this year), are the extra activities such as painting small dino-figurines and digging up gemstones and small shark teeth. You can also do a quiz through the park and hand in the answers afterwards for a chance to win a prize.
The park is kept in perfect condition. Clean paths, more than enough trash cans, good food and drinks. And the entry fee is very acceptable. The information boards next to the dinosaurs are mostly in German, though some are in English as well. The map and park information is available in four languages, including English. There is also free WiFi and you can download an app for a guided audio tour (available in fur languages as well). Food and drinks have to be paid in cash, but you can pay the entry fee and goods in the shop with (credit) card.
Again, it was a fantastic visit. The boys had loads of fun. When I compare the photo’s with those of previous years, I definitely see changes in how the boys experience the park. So fun to see that. At least their imagination has taken a different turn somewhere…
Teufelsschlucht
If you are in the neighborhood or at a reasonable driving distance and your kids are into dinosaurs, I highly recommend a visit to the park. It’s not big and we never stay a whole day. If you like to take a nice walk afterwards, the Teufelsschlucht is a great place to go (it’s just next to the park). We didn’t go for a walk this year, but I’ll give an impression of this beautiful area with some pictures of our visit two years ago.
The boys are already looking forward to the next visit. You can find more information about the park on http://www.dinosaurierpark-teufelsschlucht.de/
