I recently read the Book Tag on Pluseenbeetje. I am, just like Marije from Pluseenbeetje, a real bookworm. I love to read and I’ve always dreamed of my own library. You know, a room with walls of books and a comfy chair to snuggle up with a book. Oh well, a girl has to have a dream.
Unfortunately, I’m not reading as much as I would like. There is not much me-time left between the kids, a household, work and a blog. But if I do find the time to read, I can get totally lost in a story. I love it.
Reading this book tag was a lot of fun. A totally different tag from most others. It was fun to see what other people like to read. Interested in what I like to read? These are my answers to the book tag…
Audio book or real book?
Definitely a real book, I like to read more than to listen. As a kid, I did have a few audio cassettes of some thrilling children’s books. I remember that I totally loved them. But now, I just can’t stay focused.
Soft or hard cover?
Soft cover. Much easier to handle. I must say, I do read more e-books now. I know, the real book lovers will hate me now. I’ve resisted for quite a while, but eventually gave it a try. And now I’m hooked. I still like to browse through book stores, though. I can spend hours there. And yes, I still buy real books. But most, I buy online.
One of the reasons is that I read in English. Since we’ve lived in Denmark, where I could not get Dutch books and e-books did not really exist yet, I started reading English books. And I have not turned back ever since. The availability of English books in the stores is rather limited, so I buy most online and it’s so easy to choose an e-book. I don’t have to wait for the delivery and it does save space (remember my unfulfilled dream…). I buy a lot of books on Amazon.
Fiction or non-fiction
Fiction. Mainly Fantasy. My husband is to blame for that. He had a whole bookcase full of Fantasy-books. He persuaded me to start reading one of those books and it’s now my favorite genre. I do like to read Chicklit as well, like Cathy Kelly or the hilarious stories written by Marian Keyes.
Made up or the real world?
Well, Fantasy, so made up world ;-).
Harry Potter or Twilight?
Harry Potter all the way! I’m a real HP-fanatic. I devoured all the books and have watched the movies a zillion of times. Just love it…
Borrowed or bought?
Actually, I never borrow books from the library. Especially now, I can’t finish a book on time. And the fact that I read in English is not helping there either. So I do buy all of my books.
Single work or trilogy?
Preferably a trilogy. But it must be a good one, not that the first actually is a single work and the second a bad sequel. It has to be one story, one epic, told in three separate books. If one book is finished, you have to yearn for the next. There are a few Fantasy-writers though, who did manage to create a whole world and write single works within that world. And keep doing that in a brilliant way.
Heavy and thick or sweet and short?
Heavy and thick. I love to read long stories and I want enjoy a book/series for a while.
Romantic or action?
A lot of Fantasy-books have it all. It’s mostly thrilling stories, where relationships often play an important role. So mostly action.
Reading in a cozy environment or out in the sun?
Both. During winter, I love to snuggle up in a blanket, with a cup of hot tea, on the couch. During summer, I like to sit outside in the sun, feet up, summery drink…
Hot chocolate or coffee?
Depends on the time of day and season. So depending on the circumstances, it will either be coffee, thee, hot coco or cool drinks.
Before buying a book, do you read the review or do you decide independently?
I’ve been disappointed a couple of times, having bought a book after reading positive reviews. So reviews don’t interest me much anymore. I look at the cover, I read the back and sometimes an intro. If it ‘feels’ good, I will buy the book.
That was the book tag. Now I’m curious to see your answers. Do you like to read books? If you do decide to take over the tag, please also refer to Teddlicious, the original creator of the book tag.
Thank you for reading!
PS: do you like to read tags? I did another one: The Mommy War Tag.
