Hamburger Broccoli Cauliflower Casserole

Hamburger Broccoli Cauliflower Casserole

Hamburger Broccoli Cauliflower Casserole is an easy and delicious dish. Ok, it’s not the prettiest dish. But it does deliver on taste! The boys loved it (very important) and they keep requesting that I make it.

Ready in no time

As it’s super simple and ready in no time, it’s the perfect dish for busy week nights. Or weekends, when you don’t feel like slaving in the kitchen for too long.  And as an added bonus, it’s low carb and gluten free. You really won’t miss the carbs, I promise, but please feel free to add a cup of cooked rice or cooked pasta into the mix, if you want to.

Variations

Not only is it easy and fast, it’s very versatile too. Change it up any way you like, buy using other meats, other vegetables, different spices etc.

Ingredients

1/2 small cauliflower

1 broccoli

500 g (18 oz) ground beef

1 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

1/2 tsp chili powder

1 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

125 g (4.5 oz) crème fraîche

250 ml (1 cup) heavy cream

200 g (7 oz) grated cheese*

1 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

1 medium egg

* I used a mixture of mozzarella and Gruyère, but other cheeses will be fine as well.

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 180°C and grease a 13×9″ baking dish.

Cut the cauliflower and broccoli small pieces.

Cook or steam them until they are al dente. You want them to still to have a bit, as they will cook and soften further in the oven. I steamed mine in the microwave for about 8 minutes.

Drain well.

While the veggies are cooking/steaming, brown the beef in a skillet or wok.

Mix salt, pepper, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder and onion powder. Add to the beef and stir well (or let your little helpers do that ;-)).

In a bowl, mix crème fraîche, heavy cream, cheese, salt, pepper and egg.

To assemble, put the cauliflower and broccoli in the prepared baking dish.

Distribute the meat evenly over the vegetables.

Hi Linda, certainly, no problem to use frozen vegetables, I use them a lot (time saver!). Make sure to drain well after steaming or cooking the vegetables.
