This tuna tomato sauce our go-to recipe if we’re really pressed for time and still want to eat a tasty and healthy meal. Ready in less than 10 minutes, really. And so tasty!
Pasta lovers
Kids love everything rice or pasta. Us grown-ups too. The best pasta sauce is homemade Bolognese sauce, but if done the original way, the best result is when it’s cooked loooong and sloooowly. Unfortunately, I don’t always have time to do that (like almost never). And if I do have the time, I usually forget about starting in time. Luckily, we’ve added quite some nice and quick sauces to our arsenal to choose from. This tuna tomato sauce is one of them.
Ingredients
1 shallot
1 can of chopped tomatoes (400g)
2 can of tuna in brine (2 x 195 g)
1-2 tsp chicken stock powder
¼ tsp pepper
2 tsp paprika
Optional: corn starch (omit for staying low carb).
Optional: 1-2 tbsp sugar or sweetener
Instructions
Finely chop the shallot and sauté in a little bit of butter or oil, until translucent.
Then add the chopped tomatoes.
Heat through.
Drain the tuna (leaving a bit of brine adds to the taste) and add to the tomatoes.
Then add the chicken stock powder, pepper and paprika and heat through.
I like to add some dried Italian herbs. Do so to your own taste. As this is a quick sauce and the tomatoes are only heated through, they don’t have time to release their natural sugars. I like my tomato sauce a bit on the sweeter side, so I add a bit of rice syrup or coconut blossom sugar. But you can totally omit that. If you like it spicy, please feel free to add chili flakes or cayenne pepper.
If not doing low carb, add some corn starch to thicken the sauce.
And your sauce is done!
We served it with whole wheat spaghetti, but this is very nice over zoodles or cauli-rice as well. Perfect with a fresh side salad.
Enjoy!

Recipe Notes
*I like a tomato sauce with a little bit of sweetness. As this is a quick sauce and not made with fresh tomatoes, there is no time for the tomatoes to release their natural sugars. Adding just a little bit of sugar or sweetener gives a much richer taste.
